Noe Effect

The NOE effect (nuclear Overhauser effect) is an NMR phenomenon in which irradiation of one nuclear spin changes the signal intensity of another, providing information about their spatial proximity. It arises from cross-relaxation driven by through-space dipole–dipole interactions, so the observed enhancement or attenuation depends on internuclear distance, molecular motion, and spectrometer operating conditions. In chemistry, NOE measurements help assign resonances, distinguish stereoisomers, and determine relative configurations and three-dimensional molecular structures. Its distance-sensitive behavior makes it particularly valuable for structural elucidation of organic compounds, conformational analysis, and studies of biomolecules in solution.

Nuclear Overhauser Enhancement (NOE)

2025

Irradiation of a spin-active nucleus causes an increase or decrease in the signal intensity of neighboring nuclei that are not necessarily chemically bonded or involved in J-coupling. This phenomenon, called the nuclear Overhauser enhancement (NOE), results from through-space interactions between the nuclear spins. The NOE effect decreases with increasing internuclear distance and is generally not observed beyond 4 angstroms. In NOE, dipole-dipole interactions between neighboring spin-active...

Here, we describe the assembly of RNA polymerase II (Pol II) elongation complexes requiring only short synthetic DNA and RNA oligonucleotides and purified Pol II. These complexes are useful for studying mechanisms underlying co-transcriptional processing of transcripts associated with the Pol II elongation complex.

Here, we present a protocol to quantify allergen-loaded particles by flow cytometry. Ambient particulate matter particles may act as carriers of adsorbed allergens. We show here that flow cytometry, a method widely used to characterize suspended solids >0.5 µm in diameter, can be used to measure these allergen-loaded particles.
