Battery-powered Pumps

Battery-powered pumps are portable devices that use electrical energy stored in batteries to move fluids at controlled rates, supporting treatment when continuous or mobile delivery is needed. A battery drives a motor or actuator that generates pressure and regulates flow through tubing, reservoirs, or catheters; settings may be adjusted to deliver a specified volume over time. In clinical care, these pumps support infusion of medications, fluids, nutrition, or analgesics, including during transport and home treatment. Their portability can improve patient mobility and access to therapy, while monitoring battery status, flow accuracy, and device alarms helps promote reliable operation.

A battery is a galvanic cell that is used as a source of electrical power for specific applications. Modern batteries exist in a multitude of forms to accommodate various applications, from tiny button batteries such as those that power wristwatches to the very large batteries used to supply backup energy to municipal power grids. Some batteries are designed for single-use applications and cannot be recharged (primary cells), while others are based on conveniently reversible cell reactions that...

Solid-state Graft Copolymer Electrolytes for Lithium Battery Applications

2013

Lithium ion batteries employ flammable and volatile organic electrolytes that are suitable for ambient temperature applications. A safer alternative to organic electrolytes are solid polymer batteries. Solid polymer batteries operate safely at high temperatures (>120 °C), thus making them applicable to high temperature applications such as deep oil drilling and hybrid electric vehicles. This paper will discuss (a) the polymer synthesis, (b) the polymer conduction mechanism, and (c) provide...

2026

A design is presented to enable cost-effective low-temperature battery cycling for 2032 coin cells in a low-humidity environment. Cells are cycled at 0 °C inside a chamber cooled by thermoelectric modules. This simple design can be adapted for experiments that require similar thermal and humidity-controlled environments or different battery geometries.
