Globe Decompression

Globe decompression is a clinical intervention that relieves excessive pressure on the eye and surrounding orbital tissues, helping protect vision and preserve ocular function. By releasing constricting orbital structures or creating additional space within the orbit, the procedure lowers tissue pressure, improves ocular perfusion, and reduces forward displacement of the globe. Clinicians may use decompression in urgent conditions such as orbital compartment syndrome and in selected cases of severe proptosis, including thyroid eye disease. Its effectiveness depends on the underlying cause, the extent of pressure elevation, and timely treatment, making accurate assessment and coordinated ophthalmic care essential.
