Multi-channel Transmission

Multi-channel transmission is the engineering practice of sending multiple independent signals through a shared communication medium, increasing capacity without requiring a separate physical link for every signal. It works by separating channels through techniques such as frequency-division, time-division, wavelength-division, or code-division multiplexing, then combining and recovering the signals while limiting interference and crosstalk. Engineers apply multi-channel transmission in fiber-optic networks, wireless communication, satellite links, and data systems to improve bandwidth efficiency, reliability, and scalability. Understanding channel allocation, signal separation, synchronization, and noise performance is essential for designing high-throughput communication infrastructure.

Dielectrophoresis (DEP) is an effective method to manipulate cells. Printed circuit boards (PCB) can provide inexpensive, reusable and effective electrodes for contact-free cell manipulation within microfluidic devices. By combining PDMS-based microfluidic channels with coverslips on PCBs, we demonstrate bead and cell manipulation and separation within multichannel microfluidic devices.

We demonstrate the transmission of multiple independent signals through a multimode fiber using wavefront shaping employing a single spatial light modulator. By modulating the wavefront for each signal individually, spatially separated foci are transmitted. Potential applications are multiplexed data transfer in communications engineering and endoscopic light delivery in biophotonics.

The Multi-group Experiment

2023

Source: Laboratories of Gary Lewandowski, Dave Strohmetz, and Natalie Ciarocco—Monmouth University A multi-group design is an experimental design that has 3 or more conditions/groups of the same independent variable. This video demonstrates a multi-group experiment that examines how different interethnic ideologies (multiculturalism and color-blind) influence feelings about diversity and actions toward and out-group member. In providing an overview of how a researcher conducts a multi-group...

We designed a dry-type 16 channel EEG sensor which is non-invasive, deformable, and re-usable. This paper describes the whole process from manufacturing the proposed EEG electrode to signal processing of visual evoked potential (VEP) signals measured on a mouse scalp using a dry non-invasive multi-channel EEG sensor.

A Fluorescent Screening Assay for Identifying Modulators of GIRK Channels

A real-time screening procedure for identifying drugs that interact with G protein-gated inward rectifier K+ (GIRK) channels is described. The assay utilizes membrane potential-sensitive fluorescent dyes to measure GIRK channel activity. This technique is adaptable for use on a number of cell lines.
