Near-infrared Light Irradiation

Near-infrared light irradiation is the exposure of biological tissues or samples to electromagnetic radiation in the near-infrared range, used to alter cellular or microbial behavior without ionizing radiation. It works when chromophores absorb selected wavelengths, converting light energy into photochemical or localized thermal effects that can influence mitochondrial activity, reactive oxygen species, membrane integrity, and immune signaling, depending on dose and experimental conditions. In immunology and infection research, this approach supports studies of inflammation, host-pathogen interactions, antimicrobial treatment, and tissue recovery, while careful control of wavelength, intensity, exposure time, and temperature is essential for reproducible outcomes.

UV Irradiation: A Method to Integrate Extrachromosomal Arrays
