Psoriasiform Cutaneous Inflammation

Psoriasiform cutaneous inflammation is a skin response that resembles psoriasis, marked by epidermal thickening, altered keratinocyte differentiation, and infiltration of immune cells. It develops when innate and adaptive immune pathways become dysregulated: activated dendritic cells and T cells release inflammatory mediators, including interleukin-17 and tumor necrosis factor, which stimulate keratinocytes to produce additional chemokines and recruit leukocytes. In immunology and infection research, this inflammatory pattern provides a model for examining skin barrier disruption, host–microbe interactions, cytokine signaling, and immune-mediated tissue injury. Characterizing these changes can clarify disease mechanisms and support evaluation of anti-inflammatory or immunomodulatory interventions.

Overview In response to tissue injury and infection, mast cells initiate inflammation. Mast cells release chemicals that increase the permeability of adjacent blood capillaries and attract additional immune cells to the wound or site of infection. Neutrophils are phagocytic leukocytes that exit the bloodstream and engulf invading microbes. Blood clotting platelets seal the wound and fibers create a scaffold for wound healing. Macrophages engulf aging neutrophils to end the acute inflammatory...

Optimization of the experimental hamster model for cutaneous leishmaniasis by intradermal injection of Leishmania promastigotes at the dorsal skin. This approach is useful during inoculation, follow-up, characterization of lesions, application of treatments and obtaining of clinical samples. Locomotion, search for food and water, play and social activities are preserved.
