Mathematical Series

A mathematical series is the sum of the terms in a sequence, providing a framework for representing quantities through finite or infinite addition. Its behavior depends on how partial sums, formed by adding the first n terms, change as n increases; an infinite series converges when these partial sums approach a finite limit and diverges when they do not. Geometric, arithmetic, and power series support calculations across mathematics by simplifying complex expressions and approximating functions. Series are essential in calculus, numerical analysis, differential equations, and mathematical modeling, where convergence determines whether an approximation is accurate and whether a mathematical solution is meaningful.

The Bohr Model Niels Bohr proposed a model for the hydrogen atom in 1913 that described discrete energy states are associated with a fixed electron orbit around the nucleus. Importantly, an atom cannot discharge energy while its electrons are in stationary states. An electron can only emit energy by changing energy states. To change energy states, an electron must move from one orbit to another by either absorbing or emitting energy. This change can only occur if the absorbed or emitted energy...

Consider the market for compact cars as an example, where 'P' stands for the price of a compact car in thousands of dollars. We can model the quantity demanded (Qd) and quantity supplied (Qs) with the following linear equations: Quantity Demanded for Compact Cars: Qd = 60−3P Quantity Supplied for Compact Cars: Qs = 20+2P At market equilibrium, Qd = Qs. By setting these two equations equal to each other, we can solve for 'P', the equilibrium price: 60−3P = 20+2P Solving this equation gives us...

Mathematical induction is a structured method of proof used to confirm the truth of statements involving natural numbers. Consider the sum of the first n natural numbers:This formula describes a pattern that appears to hold true as more terms are added. To verify that it is valid for all natural numbers, mathematical induction proceeds in two essential steps. The first is the base case, where the formula is tested for the initial value, typically n = 1. Substituting into both sides confirms the...

Mathematical principles play a crucial role in pharmacokinetics, providing a framework for understanding and quantifying drug distribution and elimination dynamics in the body. By utilizing mathematical expressions and units, pharmacologists can accurately characterize the behavior of drugs, optimize dosing regimens, and predict therapeutic outcomes. One significant application of mathematics in pharmacokinetics is the characterization of drug distribution through the volume of distribution...
