Endoscopic Optical Dissector

An endoscopic optical dissector is a minimally invasive instrument that uses an endoscope to visualize tissue while delivering focused optical energy for precise dissection, making it valuable in modern medicine. Light, typically laser energy, travels through an optical fiber and concentrates at the target, where tissue absorption produces controlled cutting or ablation under direct visualization. This approach can reduce the need for large incisions and improve access to confined anatomical spaces. Endoscopic optical dissection supports procedures such as tissue separation, lesion removal, and biopsy, while enabling clinicians to monitor the operative field and limit disruption of surrounding structures.

The topical anesthetic lidocaine was atomized using a high oxygen flow through the working channel of a flexible intubating endoscope to achieve topical airway anesthesia for awake endotracheal intubation. We prefer this modified spray-as-you-go technique for endoscopic intubation to classical bolus application because of higher patient satisfaction and better compliance.
