Femoral Condyle Impact

Femoral condyle impact refers to the transmission of force to the rounded surfaces at the lower end of the femur that articulate with the tibia and help form the knee joint. During a collision, fall, or abrupt loading event, compressive and shear forces act across the joint, potentially affecting articular cartilage, subchondral bone, and surrounding structures. Studying these impacts helps clinicians and researchers characterize knee injuries, interpret imaging findings, and understand how altered mechanics contribute to pain, degeneration, or impaired movement. Impact analysis also supports biomechanical testing, surgical planning, rehabilitation design, and the development of protective strategies for sports and trauma care.

This protocol describes a procedure for serial sampling of femoral bone marrow (BM) without requiring the sacrifice of mice. This procedure facilitates longitudinal studies of the BM composition of mice over time and provides serial access to cells within the BM for ex vivo and transplantation studies.

2023

Source: James W Bonz, MD, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Central venous access is necessary in a multitude of clinical situations, including vascular access, vasopressor and caustic medication delivery, central venous pressure monitoring, volume resuscitation, total parental nutrition, hemodialysis, and frequent phlebotomy. There are three veins in the body that are accessed for central venous cannulation: the internal jugular, the subclavian, and the...
