Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

Heavy menstrual bleeding is menstrual blood loss that is excessive in volume, duration, or impact on daily life, making it an important clinical symptom rather than a normal variation alone. It can result from structural conditions such as fibroids or polyps, hormonal disturbances that alter ovulation and endometrial shedding, or impaired blood coagulation. Clinical evaluation considers bleeding patterns, pregnancy status, medical history, and possible anemia to identify the underlying cause. Understanding these mechanisms supports appropriate management, including treatments that reduce bleeding or address the responsible condition, while helping prevent iron deficiency, fatigue, and effects on physical, emotional, and reproductive health.

The Menstrual Cycle

2024

The menstrual cycle is a recurrent sequence of changes in the uterine endometrium, specifically its functional layer, the stratum functionalis. This cycle prepares the uterus for potential pregnancy. This cycle typically spans 21–35 days, averaging 28 days, and aligns with the ovarian cycle, regulated by fluctuating levels of ovarian hormones, primarily estrogen and progesterone. The menstrual phase occurs from days 1 to 5 and involves the shedding of the stratum functionalis, as a uterine...

Integration of microalgal cultivation with industrial flue gas will ultimately introduce heavy metals and other inorganic compounds into the growth media. This study presents a procedure used to determine the end fate and impact of heavy metals and inorganic contaminants on the growth of Nannochloropsis salina grown in photobioreactors.

Hormonal Regulation of the Menstrual Cycle

2024

The ovarian cycle regulates endometrial changes throughout a single menstrual cycle via the coordinated action of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and gonadotrophins. At puberty, GnRH begins a pulsatile release pattern, which triggers the anterior pituitary gland to secrete follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). The frequency and amplitude of GnRH pulses vary across the menstrual cycle, with faster pulses favoring LH release and slower pulses favoring FSH release.

Bleeding in Fresh Concrete

2024

Bleeding in fresh concrete occurs when water from the mix rises to the surface. This happens because the mix's solid components fail to retain all the water as they settle, leading to separation where water collects at the top. The severity of bleeding can be measured by assessing the total settlement or by noting the decrease in height per unit height of concrete. Bleeding can cause several issues in the concrete structure. Sometimes, the rising water gets trapped beneath large aggregate...
