Human Tongue Biopsy

Human tongue biopsy is a diagnostic procedure that removes a small sample of tongue tissue for microscopic examination, helping identify the cause of persistent lesions, ulcers, masses, or abnormal changes. After local anesthesia, a clinician collects tissue using an incisional, excisional, or punch technique, then preserves, sections, and stains the specimen so a pathologist can evaluate its cellular and structural features. In medicine, biopsy findings help distinguish benign conditions from infection, inflammation, dysplasia, and malignancy, supporting accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. The procedure also provides tissue-based evidence when clinical examination or imaging alone cannot explain a tongue abnormality.

Knowledge of molecular mechanisms underlying gustatory transduction has recently enjoyed significant advances, largely due to using animal models. However, the wide diversity in taste sensitivity and specificity among mammals warrants studies in human tissue. We describe a biopsy technique to collect living taste cells from the papillae on human tongue.

We describe a method to establish human enteroids from small intestinal crypts and colonoids from colon crypts collected from both surgical tissue and biopsies. In this methodological article, we present the culture modalities that are essential for the successful growth and maintenance of human enteroids and colonoids.

The human tongue is a fascinating and complex organ, responsible for various essential functions such as swallowing, speech, and taste. It is also subject to various conditions and diseases. In this article, we delve into the anatomy of the tongue, its roles, and some common conditions that can affect it. Anatomical Position in the Oral Cavity The tongue is located within the oral cavity, also known as the mouth. It is attached to the floor of the mouth by a fold of mucous membrane called the...

In order to study the changes of nociceptive intraepidermal nerve fibers (IENFs) in painful neuropathies (PN), we developed protocols that could directly examine three-dimensional morphological changes observed in nociceptive IENFs. Three-dimensional analysis of IENFs has the potential to evaluate the morphological changes of IENF in PN.

This video demonstrates the preparation of the murine tongue extracellular matrix by using the decellularization method, which involves exposing the harvested tongue to a series of physical, chemical, and enzymatic treatments. The resulting TEM scaffold retains its native extracellular matrix composition, removing the cellular components.
