Inflammation Inhibition

Inflammation inhibition is the therapeutic reduction or control of inflammatory responses, which can protect tissues from excessive immune activation while preserving necessary host defense. It works by limiting signaling between immune cells and damaged tissues, reducing mediators such as cytokines, prostaglandins, and histamine through targets that include inflammatory enzymes, receptor pathways, and gene regulation. In medicine, anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids, nonsteroidal agents, and targeted biologics are selected according to the cause, location, and duration of inflammation. These strategies help manage conditions including arthritis, asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, and allergic disorders, while research seeks more precise treatments that reduce chronic inflammation and treatment-related toxicity.

Overview In response to tissue injury and infection, mast cells initiate inflammation. Mast cells release chemicals that increase the permeability of adjacent blood capillaries and attract additional immune cells to the wound or site of infection. Neutrophils are phagocytic leukocytes that exit the bloodstream and engulf invading microbes. Blood clotting platelets seal the wound and fibers create a scaffold for wound healing. Macrophages engulf aging neutrophils to end the acute inflammatory...

Herbal Munziq Ameliorates Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury by Inhibiting Inflammation

2025

This study investigates the cardioprotective effects of Munziq, a traditional Uyghur herbal preparation, on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI) in rats with abnormal body fluid. Through comprehensive experimental methods, we demonstrate Munziq's potential to mitigate MIRI by suppressing the NF-κB signaling pathway.

Biochemical reactions are occurring constantly in cells, converting starting substances to different products, usually with the help of enzymes that speed the reactions. Without enzymes, it would take far too long for most reactions to occur to be useful to the cell! Since enzymes help control the rate of reactions, their activity is regulated so that appropriate amounts of starting materials, intermediate metabolites, and products are maintained in the cell. Excessive build-up or depletion of...

A Method to Induce Ocular Surface Inflammation in a Murine Model

2025

This video demonstrates a method to induce ocular surface inflammation and meibomian gland dysfunction in a murine model. Stimulation of the mouse's immune system using an immunogen and later restimulation with the same immunogen promotes ocular surface inflammation, which causes plugging of meibomian gland secretion through neutrophil-produced aggNETs and leads to dry eye disease.

We describe a non-invasive imaging method for distinguishing inflammatory stages. Systemic delivery of luminol reveals areas of acute inflammation dependent upon MPO activity in neutrophils. In contrast, injection of lucigenin allows for visualization of chronic inflammation dependent upon Phox activity in macrophages.
