Invasion Quantification Analysis

Invasion Quantification Analysis is the measurement and statistical evaluation of how cells penetrate surrounding tissue-like barriers, a key approach for characterizing disease progression and therapeutic response in medicine. It typically compares cell movement through an extracellular-matrix layer or porous membrane with a control condition, then converts the number of migrated cells, invaded area, or assay signal into a normalized invasion index. Applied to cancer and other disease models, this method helps distinguish invasive from noninvasive phenotypes, assess factors that regulate tissue penetration, and evaluate candidate treatments. Standardized imaging and normalization improve reproducibility and support comparisons across experiments.

Amikacin Protection Assay for Quantification and Visualization of Escherichia coli Cell Invasion

2026

Antibiotic resistance amongst adherent-invasive Escherichia coli strains poses challenges for assessing bacterial invasion using the traditional gentamicin protection assay. An improved method to evaluate bacterial invasion quantitatively by enumerating colony-forming units and qualitatively through visualization of infected cells by immunofluorescence confocal microscopy is described.

This article provides detailed methodologies for the use of three-dimensional (3D) assays to quantify breast cancer cell invasion. Specifically, we discuss the procedures required to set up such assays, quantification, and data analysis, as well as methods to examine the loss of membrane integrity that occurs when cells invade.

This protocol demonstrates how to generate fluorescently marked, genetically defined clonal tumors in the Drosophila eye/antennal imaginal discs (EAD). It describes how to dissect the EAD and brain from the third instar larvae and how to process them to visualize and quantify gene expression changes and tumor invasiveness.

Fecal Glucocorticoid Analysis: Non-invasive Adrenal Monitoring in Equids

Adrenal activity can be assessed in the equine species by analysis of feces for corticosterone metabolites. The method offers a non-invasive option to assess long term patterns in both domestic and free ranging horses. This protocol describes the enzyme linked immunoassay involved and the associated biochemical validation.

zPDX-Analysis of Invasiveness: Investigating Invasive Behavior of Metastatic Cancer Cells in Zebrafish Embryo Xenografts
