Moving Optotypes

Moving optotypes are visual test targets, such as letters, symbols, or patterns, that travel across a display to measure how well a person can resolve and identify objects in motion. During testing, clinicians vary the target’s size, contrast, direction, or speed while the patient reports its identity, allowing assessment of dynamic visual acuity rather than vision for stationary objects alone. In medicine, moving optotypes support evaluation of visual function in ophthalmology, neurology, and rehabilitation, including conditions that affect eye movements, visual processing, or gaze stability. Results can complement standard acuity tests and help monitor functional changes during diagnosis or treatment.

Strategic Moves: Side Payments

2025

Side payments are a strategic move in sequential games where one player offers a benefit to another to encourage cooperation. This tactic adjusts the payoffs for both players, making it more appealing for the opponent to choose an action that is beneficial for both players. It helps shift the dynamics of the game, leading to outcomes that are more favorable than those achieved through competition. Consider two telecommunications companies, TelNet and SignalMax, that are planning to expand into...

Recording Brain Signals from Freely Moving Piglets

2025

This video demonstrates the recording of brain signals from a freely moving piglet. The piglet's head is cleaned, and the electrodes are attached. These electrodes are then connected to a telemetry unit. The setup is secured with silicone rubber. The piglet is allowed to acclimate before data recording.

Magnetic Field due to Moving Charges

2026

A stationary charge creates and interacts with the electric field, while a moving charge creates a magnetic field. Consider a point charge moving with a constant velocity. Like the electric field, the magnetic field at any point is directly proportional to the magnitude of the charge and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the source point and the field point. However, unlike the electric field, the magnetic field is always perpendicular to the plane containing the line...

Visualization of High Speed Liquid Jet Impaction on a Moving Surface

2015

Two experimental devices for examining liquid jet impingement on a high-speed moving surface are described: an air cannon device and a spinning disk device. The apparatuses are used to determine optimal approaches to the application of liquid friction modifier (LFM) onto rail tracks for top-of-rail friction control.
