Septal Coronary Aortic Banding

Septal coronary aortic banding is a specialized surgical technique used to create controlled changes in cardiac pressure load and coronary perfusion for cardiovascular research. The procedure places a calibrated band around a selected vascular structure near the aorta and septal coronary circulation, narrowing its lumen, increasing resistance, and altering blood flow and ventricular workload. These hemodynamic changes can produce reproducible cardiac remodeling, including ventricular hypertrophy and functional impairment, allowing investigators to examine mechanisms of myocardial adaptation and disease progression. The model supports studies of coronary insufficiency, pressure overload, heart failure, therapeutic interventions, and potential treatments aimed at preserving cardiac function.

Coronary flow reserve (CFR) is useful for assessment of myocardial oxygen demand and evaluation of cardiovascular risk. This study establishes a step-by-step transthoracic Doppler echocardiographic (TTDE) method for longitudinal monitoring of the changes in CFR, as measured from coronary artery in mice, under the experimental pressure overload of aortic banding.

Full-root aortic valve replacement by stentless aortic xenograft is a viable option in patients with small aortic roots. We describe, a technique for the full-root implantation of stentless aortic xenografts, with emphasis on the management of the proximal suture line and coronary anastomoses, and discuss its limitations and alternative options.

When two or more atoms come together to form a molecule, their atomic orbitals combine and molecular orbitals of distinct energies result. In a solid, there are a large number of atoms, and therefore a large number of atomic orbitals that may be combined into molecular orbitals. These groups of molecular orbitals are so closely placed together to form continuous regions of energies, known as the bands. The energy difference between these bands is known as the band gap.
