Stricture Resolution

Stricture resolution is the restoration of normal passage through a narrowed segment of a hollow organ, often caused by scar tissue, inflammation, injury, or disease. Treatment works by relieving the narrowing through endoscopic dilation, incision, stent placement, medication, or surgical reconstruction, depending on the stricture’s location, length, cause, and severity. In medicine, resolving strictures can improve the movement of food, urine, or other bodily contents, reduce pain and obstruction, and prevent complications such as infection or organ damage. Careful diagnosis and follow-up are important because some strictures recur and may require repeated or combined treatment.

Esophageal Strictures-I: Introduction

2025

Esophageal strictures involve abnormal narrowing or tightening of the esophagus. They vary in length and severity, ranging from mild constriction to complete obstruction, and are classified as benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Etiology The primary cause of esophageal strictures is long-standing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), accounting for about 70 to 80% of adult cases. Chronic acid reflux can lead to injury and scarring of the esophageal lining, culminating in...

In the present protocol, a urethral stricture induction was developed in Wistar rats, followed by urethral reconstruction with a buccal mucosa graft. A retrograde urethrogram and laser Doppler assessment were performed, validating urethral reconstruction (after stricture formation) and graft placement.

Esophageal Strictures-II: Clinical Features and Management

Patients with esophageal strictures often experience a range of symptoms. Initially, they may have difficulty swallowing solid foods, which can progress to include liquids. Additional symptoms may involve chest pain or discomfort, regurgitating food and fluids, heartburn, unintentional weight loss, coughing or choking during meals, and hoarseness. Healthcare providers should gather a comprehensive medical history and conduct a physical examination for diagnosis. If esophageal stricture is...

Optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy (OR-PAM) is an emerging technology capable of imaging optical absorption contrasts in vivo with cellular resolution and sensitivity. Here, we provide a visualized instruction on the experimental protocols of OR-PAM, including system configuration, system alignment, typical in vivo experimental procedures, and functional imaging schemes.
