Ultraviolet Radiation Exposure

Ultraviolet Radiation Exposure is contact with ultraviolet energy from sunlight or artificial sources, a medically important environmental factor that can produce both therapeutic effects and tissue injury. Ultraviolet-A and ultraviolet-B wavelengths penetrate skin to different depths, where they trigger DNA damage, oxidative stress, inflammation, and cellular repair responses; controlled doses can also alter immune activity and vitamin D production. In medicine, supervised ultraviolet phototherapy treats conditions such as psoriasis, vitiligo, and atopic dermatitis, while exposure assessment supports prevention of sunburn, photoaging, eye injury, and skin cancer. Understanding dose, wavelength, duration, and protective measures helps balance clinical benefit against long-term risk.

Dust charging and mobilization is demonstrated in three experiments with exposure to thermal plasma with beam electrons, beam electrons only, or ultraviolet (UV) radiation only. These experiments present the advanced understanding of electrostatic dust transport and its role in shaping the surfaces of airless planetary bodies.
