Vascular Pedicle Ligation

Vascular pedicle ligation is a surgical technique that closes the blood vessels forming a tissue’s vascular pedicle, allowing surgeons to control circulation during tissue removal, transfer, or reconstruction. The procedure uses suture ties, clips, or other ligation devices to occlude the pedicle, stopping blood flow while helping limit hemorrhage and defining the tissue’s separation from its original blood supply. In medicine, it supports procedures involving tissue flaps, organ surgery, and vascularized grafts, where careful identification and secure closure of the vessels are essential for operative safety, bleeding control, and successful reconstruction.

Coronoid-Temporalis Pedicled Flap for Orbital Floor Defect Reconstruction

2025

This protocol presents a novel coronoid-temporalis pedicled flap (CTPF) technique for reconstructing small-to-medium orbital floor defects. CTPF avoids microvascular risks while maintaining biomechanical stability. Clinical cases demonstrate effective structural restoration, reduced complications, and preserved facial symmetry, offering a viable alternative to traditional grafts or alloplastic materials.
