Acrylic Board Setup

Acrylic board setup is a laboratory arrangement that uses a rigid, transparent acrylic platform to organize and stabilize equipment during neuroscience experiments. The board provides a level mounting surface, allowing components such as supports, recording hardware, or experimental fixtures to remain securely positioned while reducing unwanted movement and simplifying access to the preparation. In neuroscience, careful setup can improve the consistency of surgical, electrophysiological, behavioral, or imaging procedures by maintaining repeatable spatial relationships among the subject, instruments, and recording devices. Standardized board layouts also support efficient troubleshooting, reproducible data collection, and adaptation of experimental systems for different research applications.

2023

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. DC/DC converters are power electronic converters that convert DC voltages and currents from a certain level to another level. Typically, voltage conversion is the main purpose of DC/DC converters and three main types of conversion exist in a single converter: stepping up, stepping down, and stepping up or down. Among the most common step-up converters are boost converters (Refer to this collections...

This protocol describes the modified hole board, which is a behavioral test set-up that comprises the characteristics of an open field and a traditional hole board. This set-up enables the differential analysis of unconditioned behavior of small laboratory mammals as well as the analysis of cognitive abilities.

A fast and inexpensive method for the behavioral determination of hearing parameters like hearing thresholds, hearing impairments or phantom perceptions (subjective tinnitus) is described. It uses pre-pulse inhibition of the acoustic startle response and can be easily implemented in a personal computer using a programmable AD/DA-converter and a piezo sensor.

2016

A novel methodology is presented to synthesize and program main-chain liquid-crystalline elastomers using commercially available starting monomers. A wide range of thermomechanical properties was tailored by adjusting the amount of crosslinker, while the actuation performance was dependent on the amount of applied strain during programming.
