Light Bulb Comparison

Light bulb comparison is the systematic evaluation of lighting technologies based on how they produce light, their energy use, and their practical performance. Incandescent bulbs emit light when an electric current heats a tungsten filament, whereas compact fluorescent lamps use an electrical discharge to excite mercury vapor and LEDs generate light when electrons and holes recombine in a semiconductor. Comparing luminous efficiency, color temperature, brightness, lifespan, heat production, and power consumption helps connect electrical energy to observable light output. In physics, these comparisons illustrate energy conversion, thermal radiation, atomic excitation, and semiconductor behavior while informing choices for household, industrial, and sustainable lighting.

Recording Temperature-induced Neuronal Activity through Monitoring Calcium Changes in the Olfactory Bulb of Xenopus laevis

Here we describe a protocol for measuring and analyzing temperature responses in the olfactory bulb of Xenopus laevis. Olfactory receptor neurons and mitral cells are differentially stained, after which calcium changes are recorded, reflecting a sensitivity of some neural networks in the bulb to temperature drops induced at the nose.

The temporal and spatial resolution of genetic manipulations determines the spectrum of biological phenomena that they can perturb. Here we use temporally and spatially discrete in vivo electroporation, combined with transgenic lines of zebrafish, to induce expression of a GFP transgene specifically in neurons of the developing olfactory bulb.

According to Charles Cooley, we base our image on what we think other people see (Cooley 1902). We imagine how we must appear to others, then react to this speculation. We don certain clothes, prepare our hair in a particular manner, wear makeup, use cologne, and the like—all with the notion that our presentation of ourselves is going to affect how others perceive us. We expect a certain reaction, and, if lucky, we get the one we desire and feel good about it. But more than that, Cooley...
