Hygiene Protocol

A hygiene protocol is a standardized set of practices that limits the spread of microorganisms and maintains safe conditions in clinical environments. It works by combining hand hygiene, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, cleaning, disinfection, and aseptic technique to interrupt transmission between patients, healthcare workers, instruments, and surfaces. Clinical protocols specify when and how these measures are performed, including before and after patient contact and during procedures that may expose sterile sites. Consistent implementation reduces healthcare-associated infections, protects both patients and staff, and supports reliable clinical care, laboratory work, and infection-control surveillance.
