Polyp Removal

Polyp removal is a clinical procedure that eliminates polyps, abnormal tissue growths projecting from the lining of organs, to relieve symptoms and assess or reduce potential health risks. During endoscopic treatment, a clinician guides an instrument to the polyp and removes it with biopsy forceps or a wire snare; larger lesions may also require cautery to control bleeding. The recovered tissue is sent for histopathological examination, which identifies its type and guides follow-up. In gastrointestinal care, especially colorectal screening, polyp removal supports early cancer detection and prevention while combining minimally invasive diagnosis with treatment.

2014

Vocal fold polyps can disrupt vocal fold dynamics and thus can have devastating consequences on a patient's ability to communicate. Three-dimensional flow separation induced by a wall-mounted model polyp and its impact on the wall pressure loading are examined using particle image velocimetry, skin friction line visualization, and wall pressure measurements.

Rotary Evaporation to Remove Solvent

2023

Source: Dr. Melanie Pribisko Yen and Grace Tang — California Institute of Technology Rotary evaporation is a technique most commonly used in organic chemistry to remove a solvent from a higher-boiling point compound of interest. The rotary evaporator, or "rotovap", was invented in 1950 by the chemist Lyman C. Craig. The primary use of a rotovap is to dry and purify samples for downstream applications. Its speed and ability to handle large volumes of solvent make rotary evaporation a preferred...
