Coordinate System Definition

A coordinate system is a mathematical framework for locating points by assigning numerical positions relative to a defined origin, reference axes, and units. In medicine, clinicians and researchers use Cartesian or anatomical coordinate systems to represent structures in three-dimensional space: measurements are taken along perpendicular axes or other defined directions, then combined into coordinates that specify location, distance, and orientation. This framework supports the interpretation of medical images, anatomical mapping, surgical and robotic navigation, motion analysis, and quantitative research by allowing observations from different time points, devices, or patients to be compared within a common spatial reference. Standardized coordinates can improve localization, measurement, communication, and reproducibility across clinical and research settings.

Defining the research problem is crucial for setting the direction and focus of a market research study. This step ensures that the research is targeted and relevant. A critical aspect involves framing the issue within a broader context by conducting a thorough literature review. For instance, to understand why a new beverage product is underperforming, researchers review existing studies on consumer preferences and market trends to identify gaps. After identifying the problem, specifying the...

For transition metal complexes, the coordination number determines the geometry around the central metal ion. Table 1 compares coordination numbers to molecular geometry. The most common structures of the complexes in coordination compounds are octahedral, tetrahedral, and square planar. In most main group element compounds, the valence electrons of the isolated atoms combine to form chemical bonds that satisfy the octet rule. For instance, the four valence electrons of carbon overlap with electrons from four hydrogen atoms to form CH4. The one valence electron leaves sodium and adds to the seven valence electrons of chlorine to form the ionic formula unit NaCl (Figure 1a). Transition metals do not normally bond in this fashion. They primarily form coordinate covalent bonds, a...

(2019)This video demonstrates the procedure for delivering high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS) by accurately positioning electrodes using the 10–10 system, mapping their locations with a 3D digitizer, and applying stimulation to modulate neuronal activity in a targeted brain region.

Balance and Coordination Testing

Balance and coordination are critical components involved in the control of movement. Many sensory receptors and neural processing units are required to help individuals maintain balance while performing various activities. Deficits in balance and coordination occur in patients suffering from movement disorders or due to aging. Therefore, scientists are trying to understand the pathophysiology behind these conditions. One way to do that is by using rodent models and testing them on behavioral...
