Reversed-phase Lc-ms

Reversed-phase LC-MS is an analytical technique that separates compounds by liquid chromatography and identifies or quantifies them by mass spectrometry, making it valuable for characterizing complex biochemical samples. In the chromatographic stage, analytes partition between a nonpolar stationary phase and a polar mobile phase, while an increasing organic-solvent gradient elutes compounds according to hydrophobicity; electrospray ionization then converts them into gas-phase ions for mass-to-charge analysis. In biochemistry, reversed-phase LC-MS supports the analysis of peptides, proteins, metabolites, lipids, and pharmaceutical compounds. Its combination of separation, molecular-mass information, and sensitive detection enables biomarker studies, protein characterization, metabolic profiling, and quantitative research.

A bioprinter was used to create patterned hydrogels based on a sacrificial mold. The poloxamer mold was backfilled with a second hydrogel and then eluted, leaving voids which were filled with a third hydrogel. This method uses fast elution and good printability of poloxamer to generate complex architectures from biopolymers.

Phase Transitions: Sublimation and Deposition

2020

Some solids can transition directly into the gaseous state, bypassing the liquid state, via a process known as sublimation. At room temperature and standard pressure, a piece of dry ice (solid CO2) sublimes, appearing to gradually disappear without ever forming any liquid. Snow and ice sublimate at temperatures below the melting point of water, a slow process that may be accelerated by winds and the reduced atmospheric pressures at high altitudes. When solid iodine is warmed, the solid sublimes...
