Fm4-64 Membrane Staining

FM4-64 membrane staining is a fluorescence-based method for labeling cell membranes and visualizing membrane organization, integrity, and trafficking. This lipophilic styryl dye initially binds the outer leaflet of the plasma membrane, where its fluorescence increases, and can then be internalized through endocytic pathways to mark intracellular membrane compartments. In bioengineering, FM4-64 supports imaging of membrane dynamics in engineered cells, tissues, and cell-based devices, helping researchers assess endocytosis, vesicle transport, membrane remodeling, and responses to experimental conditions. Its time-dependent fluorescence provides a practical readout for studying cellular function and evaluating engineered biological systems.
