Species Sex Identification

Species sex identification is the determination of an organism’s biological sex using observable traits or molecular evidence, an essential step in studying populations, reproduction, and genetic diversity. Depending on the species and life stage, researchers examine sexual dimorphism or detect sex-linked chromosomes and DNA markers through techniques such as polymerase chain reaction and genomic analysis. In bioengineering, these approaches support controlled breeding, wildlife conservation, animal husbandry, and the development of species-specific assays for rapid, noninvasive testing. Reliable sex assignment improves population monitoring and helps researchers investigate how sex influences development, behavior, and disease susceptibility.
