Grafting Technique

Grafting technique is a biological method that joins parts of two plants so they grow as a single organism, combining desirable traits from each. The scion, which supplies the shoot, is attached to the rootstock by aligning their vascular cambium layers; wound responses then produce callus tissue and reconnect xylem and phloem across the graft union. In biology and horticulture, grafting enables propagation of plants that are difficult to root, improves vigor and stress tolerance, and combines disease-resistant root systems with high-quality fruiting or flowering varieties. It also provides a practical system for studying plant growth, vascular development, and long-distance signaling.

A Technique for Human Skin Grafting in a Mouse Model

2025

This video demonstrates a method for grafting human skin onto an immunodeficient mouse with a suppressed neutrophil response. The method involves applying human split-thickness skin to the mouse's graft bed, sealing it, and covering it for recovery. Eventually, the human skin adheres to the mouse's skin, establishing vascularization and circulation, resulting in a successful skin xenograft.

This video describes orthotopic kidney auto-transplantation in a porcine model. This surgical procedure involves the transplantation of an animal's kidney graft at its original anatomical location. The model is used to investigate new treatments for end-stage kidney diseases in humans.

Marginal grafts, such as fatty livers, grafts from older donors, or livers retrieved after cardiac death (DCD) tolerate conventional, cold static storage only poorly. We developed a novel model of subnormothermic ex vivo liver perfusion for preservation, assessment, and repair of marginal liver grafts prior to transplantation.

Neointimal hyperplasia is the primary cause of stenosis in arterialized veins. We propose a new protocol whereby the right external jugular vein is grafted using the cuff technique in the common carotid artery of Sprague Dawley rats. The survival rate was 100 % at the time point of sacrifice.
