Iterative Enrichment

Iterative enrichment is a biological method that repeatedly selects for organisms, cells, molecules, or traits with desired properties, increasing their representation over successive cycles. In each round, a mixed population is exposed to defined growth or selection conditions, and the surviving or amplified fraction is transferred to a fresh cycle; changing selection pressure can progressively favor the target phenotype or function. This approach can enrich microorganisms from environmental samples, concentrate functional genes or proteins, and support experimental evolution studies. By linking selection conditions with measurable outcomes, iterative enrichment helps researchers isolate rare biological activities and characterize adaptation, community composition, or molecular function.

Iterated Integrals and Fubini's Theorem

A double integral generalizes the concept of a single-variable integral to functions of two variables, enabling the computation of the volume beneath a surface z = f(x, y) over a planar region R . For a rectangular region defined by a ≤ x ≤ b and c ≤ y ≤ d, and for functions continuous on this domain, the double integral can be evaluated as an iterated integral. This approach simplifies computation by reducing the problem to successive integrations with respect to one variable at a...

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. Environmental enrichment involves objects and practices that encourage natural behaviors, improve psychological well-being, and promote better welfare in laboratory rodents. Environmental enrichment should be tailored to the...

This article describes a method to obtain a three-dimensional (3D) structure of helically assembled molecules using cryo-electron microscopy. In this protocol, we use HIV-1 capsid assemblies to illustrate the detailed 3D reconstruction procedure for achieving a density map by the iterative helical real-space reconstruction method.
