Skin Incision Technique

Skin incision technique is a controlled method for opening the skin while minimizing tissue trauma, bleeding, and infection, making it essential for surgical research and cancer studies. Researchers use a sterile scalpel to create a planned incision along selected anatomical landmarks, often through the epidermis and dermis into the underlying tissue, while maintaining hemostasis and protecting nearby structures. In cancer research, this technique supports tumor implantation, excision, biopsy, and access to tissues for sampling or treatment evaluation. Consistent incision depth, length, and closure helps improve healing, animal welfare, experimental reproducibility, and interpretation of tumor growth or therapeutic outcomes.

2025

We introduced an optimized surgical approach for small incision lenticule extraction, termed the Ye's Swing Technique. This technique enables the surgeon to perform lenticule separation and extraction more easily while minimizing the risk of incision-edge tears and lenticule fragmentation. The results of this study proved its safety and efficacy.

A Technique for Human Skin Grafting in a Mouse Model

2025

This video demonstrates a method for grafting human skin onto an immunodeficient mouse with a suppressed neutrophil response. The method involves applying human split-thickness skin to the mouse's graft bed, sealing it, and covering it for recovery. Eventually, the human skin adheres to the mouse's skin, establishing vascularization and circulation, resulting in a successful skin xenograft.

A Technique to Assess the Immune Response against an Antigen by Inducing Skin Inflammation

2025

This video demonstrates an in vivo technique to assess a test antigen by inducing skin inflammation in a murine model. The test antigen—a hapten in an oil/acetone solution—is topically applied to the skin of the mouse ear, and inflammation of the skin is assessed after an adequate period.

Allogeneic skin transplantation is a standard model to assay host T cell responses to MHC-disparate donor antigens. This video-article provides a visual tutorial of each step involved in performing a BALB/c-->C57BL/6 skin transplant.

Metacarpal Small Incision for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

2024

Carpal tunnel decompression with transverse carpal ligament transection is a very successful treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. The standard long-curved incision technique has become the best treatment for median nerve entrapment decompression. Here we introduce the metacarpal small incision carpal tunnel release (MSICTR) in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).
