Bulk Solution

A bulk solution is a liquid preparation produced in a larger quantity for subsequent dispensing, administration, or use in clinical and pharmaceutical processes. Its components are dissolved or uniformly dispersed in a suitable solvent, with concentration, mixing, sterility, stability, and storage conditions controlled to maintain consistent quality throughout the batch. In clinical settings, bulk solutions support efficient preparation of medications, laboratory reagents, and other liquid products while enabling standardized dosing and reduced handling time. Careful formulation and quality control help limit contamination, concentration errors, and changes in product performance during storage or use.

Making Solutions in the Laboratory

2023

The ability to successfully make solutions is a basic laboratory skill performed in virtually all biological and chemical experiments. A solution is a homogenous mixture of solute dissolved in bulk liquid known as the solvent. Solutions can be described by their solute concentration, a measure of how much solute is present per unit of solution. In this video, a step-by-step procedure for how to make a water-based, or aqueous, solution for biological applications is presented. The video...

Bulk Modulus

The bulk modulus is a scientific term used to describe a material's resistance to uniform compression. It is the proportionality constant that links a change in pressure to the resulting relative volume change. This concept becomes clearer when an isotropic material element is visualized as a cube of unit volume. When this cube is subjected to normal stresses, it undergoes deformation, changing its shape into a rectangular parallelepiped with a different volume. The discrepancy between this...

Quantifying Bulk Autophagic Sequestration Activity in Mammalian Cells

2025

The video demonstrates an assay for assessing bulk autophagic sequestration activity in mammalian cells. It utilizes electroporation to release cytosolic proteins, including lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). The sequestered LDH and total cellular LDH fractions are determined to assess LDH sequestration, providing insights into the overall bulk sequestration activity.
