Humidifier

A humidifier is a device that adds water vapor to air, helping control environmental humidity and support conditions in which dry air can affect comfort, materials, or biological tissues. In clinical settings, humidifiers typically pass air over heated water or generate fine droplets, increasing absolute humidity before the air reaches a patient through a respiratory circuit, mask, or other delivery system. Appropriate humidification can reduce drying and irritation of the nasal and respiratory passages during oxygen therapy or mechanical ventilation, while temperature and water levels require careful monitoring. Clinical use therefore depends on selecting, cleaning, and regulating the device to promote effective respiratory support and limit contamination risks.

Differentiation of Neural Stem Cells to Neurons Using a Compartmentalized Microfluidic Device

2025

The video demonstrates the differentiation of neural stem cells (NSCs) using a microfluidic device comprising a somatic and an axonal compartment separated by a microgroove barrier. NSCs are introduced into the somatic compartment and are allowed to adhere. The NSCs differentiate into neurons inside the somatic compartment and extend axons through the microgroove barrier to the axonal compartment.

Observation and Quantification of Telomere and Repetitive Sequences Using Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) with PNA Probes in Caenorhabditis elegans

We report a concise procedure of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in the gonad and embryos of Caenorhabditis elegans for observing and quantifying repetitive sequences. We successfully observed and quantified two different repetitive sequences, telomere repeats and template of alternative lengthening of telomeres (TALT).

This protocol focuses on utilizing the inherent ability of stem cells to take cue from their surrounding extracellular matrix and be induced to differentiate into multiple phenotypes. This methods manuscript extends our description and characterization of a model utilizing a bilayered hydrogel, composed of PEG-fibrin and collagen, to simultaneously co-differentiate adipose-derived stem cells1.

Differentiating Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells into Neurons on Micro-Electrode Arrays

2025

The video demonstrates a method for generating excitatory cortical neurons from human-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). Upon doxycycline induction, the hiPSCs overexpress neurogenin-2, a neural-specific transcription factor. By using specific media and co-culturing with astrocytes, this process facilitates the hiPSCs' differentiation into neurons with synaptic connections.

Visualization of Bacteria in Bladder Biopsy Sections via Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization

2025

This video demonstrates the visualization of bacteria in deparaffinized bladder tissue from a urinary tract-infected patient. Fluorescently-labeled probe hybridized with bacterial 16s ribosomal RNAs reveals the tissue-associated bacteria and their distribution, providing valuable spatial insights into their density within the sample.
