Canonical Variate Analysis

Canonical Variate Analysis is a multivariate statistical method that identifies combinations of measured variables that best distinguish predefined groups. It transforms correlated traits into canonical variates by maximizing between-group variation relative to within-group variation, allowing complex datasets to be represented along a small number of informative axes. In developmental biology, this approach can compare morphological, anatomical, or molecular profiles across developmental stages, genotypes, tissues, or experimental conditions. The resulting ordination and group separation help researchers recognize coordinated patterns of change, assess developmental differences, and identify which traits contribute most strongly to biological variation.

What is Variation?

Apart from the measures of central tendency, distribution, outliers, and the changing characteristics of data with time, an important characteristic of any data set is its variation or spread. In some data sets, the data values are concentrated closely near the mean; in others, the data values are more widely spread out from the mean. The range, standard deviation, standard error, and variance are the different measures of variation. Range: The range is the difference between its maximum and...

Non-Canonical Wnt Signaling Pathways

2023

Wnt is a zygotic effect gene that is expressed during very early embryonic development. It regulates various processes in animals starting from early development through the adult stage, such as organogenesis in the embryo and maintenance of neuronal and blood stem cells. Wnt proteins can induce a wide variety of intracellular pathways depending upon the specific abilities of different Wnt ligands to form a complex with shared and cognate receptors in the presence of different co-receptors. The...

Source: Shreyas Narsipur, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC A nozzle is a device that is commonly used to accelerate or decelerate flow by virtue of its varying cross-section. Nozzles are widely used in aerospace propulsion systems. In rockets, propellant that is ejected from the chamber is accelerated through a nozzle to create a reaction force that propels the system. In jet engines, a nozzle is used to transform energy from a high-pressure...

An important characteristic of any set of data is the variation in the data. In some data sets, the data values are concentrated closely near the mean; in other data sets, the data values are more widely spread out from the mean. The most common measure of variation, or spread, is the standard deviation, which is the square root of variance. When independent and dependent variables are plotted on a scatter plot, the slope of a line is a value that describes the rate of change between the two...
