Flexural Test

A flexural test is an engineering method for evaluating how a material or structural component responds to bending, revealing its stiffness, strength, and resistance to failure. During the test, a specimen rests on supports while a transverse load is applied, commonly at one or two points, creating a controlled bending moment until a specified deflection or fracture occurs; the resulting load-deflection data can be used to calculate flexural strength and modulus. Engineers apply these measurements to compare materials, verify quality, guide component design, and assess performance in structures such as beams, panels, composites, and polymers under service-like loading conditions.
