Split-root Technique

The split-root technique is an experimental method in which a plant’s root system is divided between separate soil compartments, allowing researchers to expose different root portions to distinct environmental conditions. Because the root sections remain connected through the plant, scientists can compare local responses while measuring systemic effects mediated by chemical signals, water transport, or nutrient allocation. In environmental research, the method helps reveal how plants respond to uneven nutrient availability, drought, salinity, soil contaminants, or beneficial and harmful microbial interactions. It also clarifies root-to-shoot communication and resource-allocation strategies, supporting studies of plant adaptation, ecosystem function, and sustainable crop management.

2023

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel—University of Southern California The study of how damage to the brain affects cognitive functioning has historically been one of the most important tools for cognitive neuroscience. While the brain is one of the most well protected parts of the body, there are many events that can affect the functioning of the brain. Vascular issues, tumors, degenerative diseases, infections, blunt force traumas, and neurosurgery are just some of the...

A Technique for Harvesting and Dissociating Dorsal Root Ganglia for Neuronal Cultures

2025

This video demonstrates a method for harvesting neurons from the dorsal root ganglia (DRG). DRG from a rat's spinal column is isolated, treated with enzymes, and then mechanically dissociated to obtain a single-cell suspension. The neurons are separated from glial cells using density gradient centrifugation and cultured in a growth medium.

Stock Split

A stock split is a corporate action aimed at increasing the number of a company's shares by dividing its existing shares into multiple new ones. This adjustment reduces the per-share price without altering the company's overall market capitalization, thereby making shares more affordable to investors and enhancing trading flexibility. Stock splits are often employed by companies whose stock prices have risen significantly, making their shares less accessible to retail investors. Lowering the...

This video demonstrates how to maintain the growth of human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) in feeder cell-free conditions and how to continuously passage hESCs in feeder cell-free conditions. Confirmation of hESC pluripotency grown in feeder cell-free conditions by immunofluorescence microscopy is also demonstrated. Part 2 of 3.
