Microscopic Image Analysis

Microscopic image analysis is the systematic examination and measurement of images captured by light, fluorescence, or electron microscopy to characterize cells, tissues, and microorganisms. It combines image processing with quantitative analysis, using steps such as calibration, noise reduction, segmentation, feature extraction, and classification to distinguish structures or signals based on visual and spatial properties. In immunology and infection research, these methods help quantify immune-cell morphology, pathogen presence, cellular interactions, and changes in tissue organization. By converting visual observations into reproducible measurements, microscopic image analysis supports diagnosis, experimental comparison, and investigation of host-pathogen relationships.
