Positive Negative Solutions

Positive and negative solutions are real-number answers to equations or inequalities classified by whether their values lie above or below zero. This sign distinction matters because a single equation may have roots with different mathematical meanings; to find them, simplify the expression, isolate the variable, factor, or apply another algebraic method, then test each candidate in the original statement. A positive solution is greater than zero, a negative solution is less than zero, and zero is neither. In algebra and applied mathematics, sign analysis supports inequality reasoning, graph interpretation, and models involving direction, change, gain, loss, or other quantities where admissibility depends on value.

Positive, Negative, and Zero Work

2025

Work is done on an object when energy is transferred to the object. In other words, work is done when a force acts on a body that undergoes a displacement from one position to another. By definition, the work done by a force is the integral of the force with respect to the displacement along its path. Forces can vary as a function of position, and displacements can occur along various paths between two points. The magnitude of a force multiplied by the cosine of the angle that the force makes...

Negative and Positive Feedback

Animal organs and organ systems constantly adjust to internal and external changes through a process called homeostasis ("steady state"). Examples of these changes include regulation of the level of glucose or calcium in the blood or internal responses to external temperatures. Homeostasis requires maintaining an internal dynamic equilibrium: Dynamic because it constantly adjusts to the changes that the body's systems encounter. Equilibrium because body functions are kept within specific...

This video describes the technique of isolating CD133 negative and positive melanoma stem cells from a primary melanoma cell line using magnetic-activated cell sorting. The CD133 positive melanoma CSCs are further studied to understand the mechanisms of melanoma tumorigenesis.
