Hemodynamic Calculation

Hemodynamic calculation is the quantitative assessment of blood flow, pressure, and vascular resistance to characterize cardiovascular function and guide clinical decision-making. It uses measured variables and physiological relationships, such as cardiac output calculated from heart rate multiplied by stroke volume, while mean arterial pressure and cardiac output can help estimate systemic vascular resistance. In medicine, these calculations support interpretation of cardiac performance, tissue perfusion, and circulatory disturbances. They are applied alongside blood pressure measurements, echocardiography, or invasive monitoring to evaluate patients, identify changes in cardiovascular status, and inform treatment in settings such as critical care and cardiovascular research.

2020

During pandemics, medical staff become a key resource in treating and managing patients with these infectious diseases. To achieve the best medical care, relevant techniques and procedures must be taught to medical staff which minimize the risk of work-related transmission of infection. When carrying out hemodynamic monitoring in cardiovascularly unstable patients, it is possible to utilize a Pulse Contour Cardiac Output (PiCCO) catheter. This system utilizes a thermodilution method to analyze...

Calculating the Equilibrium Constant

2020

The equilibrium constant for a reaction is calculated from the equilibrium concentrations (or pressures) of its reactants and products. If these concentrations are known, the calculation simply involves their substitution into the Kc expression. For example, gaseous nitrogen dioxide forms dinitrogen tetroxide according to this equation: When 0.10 mol NO2 is added to a 1.0-L flask at 25 °C, the concentration changes so that at equilibrium, [NO2] = 0.016 M and [N2O4] = 0.042 M. The value of the...

Early stage hemodynamic dysfunction is critical to the development of kidney disease. Yet, detection methodologies are limited. Recent advances in sonography provide a noninvasive, accurate option for early detection of kidney injury. This study outlines a step-by-step, sonographic methodology for detecting kidney dysfunction using a drug-induced nephrotoxicity rat model.
