Inferior Mesenteric Vein Graft

An inferior mesenteric vein graft is an autologous vascular conduit made from the inferior mesenteric vein to reconstruct or bypass a damaged or resected venous segment, most often within the portal-mesenteric circulation. During surgery, the vein segment is harvested and interposed between the remaining vessels, with carefully aligned anastomoses restoring continuous blood flow while preserving venous drainage from abdominal organs. This approach can provide a biologically compatible alternative to synthetic grafts or prosthetic materials. Its use is relevant in complex hepatobiliary, pancreatic, colorectal, and vascular procedures when primary venous repair is not feasible, supporting reconstruction and reducing circulatory obstruction.

To improve our knowledge of cellular and molecular neotissue formation, a murine model of the TEVG was recently developed. The grafts were implanted as infrarenal vena cava interposition grafts in C57BL/6 mice. This model achieves similar results to those achieved in our clinical investigation, but over a far shortened time-course.

Laparoscopic Anatomic S7+S8d Resection Preserving Inferior Right Hepatic Vein and S6 with Right Hepatic Vein Transection

2025

We present a laparoscopic technique for anatomic S7+S8d resection with right hepatic vein transection, preserving the inferior right hepatic vein and segment S6. Relying on meticulous anatomical landmarks without intraoperative ultrasound, this approach offers a precise and parenchyma-sparing option for dorsally located right-liver tumors, particularly in settings with limited advanced navigation resources.

We detail a protocol to monitor the behavior of neutrophils and monocytes in mesenteric veins under steady state and inflammatory conditions using intravital confocal microscopy on anaesthetized mice.

Jugular Vein Graft Harvest From a Rabbit Model: A Surgical Procedure to Excise a Segment of Rabbit Jugular Vein for Ex Vivo Studies

In this video, we demonstrate a procedure for surgically harvesting a segment of the jugular vein from a rabbit model. The resected segment can be used as an autologous vein graft to study intimal hyperplasia that develops due to arterial blood pressure.

Neointimal hyperplasia is the primary cause of stenosis in arterialized veins. We propose a new protocol whereby the right external jugular vein is grafted using the cuff technique in the common carotid artery of Sprague Dawley rats. The survival rate was 100 % at the time point of sacrifice.
