Light Field Alignment

Light field alignment is the calibration and adjustment of an imaging system so that its lenses, microlens array, sensor, and optical axes correctly represent the direction and position of incoming light rays. It works by imaging calibration targets and comparing measured elemental images, focal planes, and ray coordinates to identify shifts, rotation, magnification errors, or lens misalignment, then applying mechanical or computational corrections. In medicine, accurate alignment supports light field microscopy and related three-dimensional imaging methods that capture spatial information from a single acquisition. Better calibration improves depth estimation, digital refocusing, and reconstruction of cellular or tissue structures, strengthening quantitative analysis and reproducibility.

A technique for performing quantitative three-dimensional (3D) imaging for a range of fluid flows is presented. Using concepts from the area of Light Field Imaging, we reconstruct 3D volumes from arrays of images. Our 3D results span a broad range including velocity fields and multi-phase bubble size distributions.

Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN Magnetic fields can be generated by moving charges, such as an electrical current. The magnetic field generated by a current can be calculated from the Maxwell equation. In addition, magnetic objects such as bar magnets can also generate magnetic fields due to microscopic dynamics of charges inside the material. Magnetic fields will exert magnetic force on other moving...
