Rat Erectile Dysfunction Model

The rat erectile dysfunction model is a preclinical research system that reproduces impaired penile erection in rats to clarify disease mechanisms and evaluate potential treatments. Erectile function is typically assessed by measuring changes in intracavernosal pressure during cavernous nerve stimulation, often after inducing conditions such as diabetes, vascular dysfunction, hormonal deficiency, or nerve injury. Researchers use these models to examine endothelial signaling, nitric oxide-dependent smooth-muscle relaxation, tissue remodeling, and neural control of erection. Findings can support the development and comparison of pharmacological, regenerative, and surgical interventions before clinical investigation in humans.

Trace eyeblink classical conditioning (ECC) was used to assess hippocampal-dependent associative learning in adult rats that were administered a high concentration (11.9% v/v) of alcohol during early neonatal brain development. In general, ECC procedures are sound diagnostic tools for detecting brain dysfunction across many psychological and biomedical settings.

Early stage hemodynamic dysfunction is critical to the development of kidney disease. Yet, detection methodologies are limited. Recent advances in sonography provide a noninvasive, accurate option for early detection of kidney injury. This study outlines a step-by-step, sonographic methodology for detecting kidney dysfunction using a drug-induced nephrotoxicity rat model.
