Brain Heart Interplay

Brain-heart interplay describes the bidirectional communication between the brain and cardiovascular system, linking neural activity with heart rate, blood pressure, and emotional state. The autonomic nervous system regulates cardiac function through sympathetic and parasympathetic pathways, while baroreceptors and chemical signals relay information from the heart and blood vessels back to the brain. In neuroscience, studying this interaction helps explain how stress, emotion, attention, and bodily sensations influence cognition and behavior. It also supports research on neurocardiology, autonomic disorders, cardiovascular risk, and interventions that target breathing, biofeedback, or vagal activity to improve physiological regulation.

Use of zebrafish for cardiovascular research is expanding towards research on adult hearts. For these applications, quick and simple isolation of cardiac tissues is key to avoid post-mortem changes and to obtain an adequate number of samples. Here, we describe a fast and reproducible method for dissecting adult zebrafish hearts.

A Novel Ex vivo Culture Method for the Embryonic Mouse Heart
