Plasma Thrombin Coating

Plasma thrombin coating is a bioactive surface-treatment technique that creates a protein-rich matrix to support cell attachment and growth, including in neuroscience research. When thrombin is added to blood plasma, it converts fibrinogen into fibrin, producing a fibrillar layer that adheres to a culture substrate and presents extracellular matrix components to cells. This coating can improve the adhesion and maintenance of neural cells, enabling studies of neuronal morphology, neurite extension, and cell–matrix interactions under controlled laboratory conditions. As a practical alternative to purely synthetic coatings, it helps researchers model aspects of the neural cellular environment in vitro.
