Mass Ejection Rate

Mass ejection rate is the amount of mass expelled from a system per unit time, typically expressed in kilograms per second, and it quantifies how rapidly matter leaves a source. In a flowing fluid or plasma, it depends on the material density, outflow velocity, and cross-sectional area, often represented by Ṁ = ρvA; conservation of mass links this rate to changes within the source. Physicists use mass ejection rate to analyze rocket exhaust, industrial jets, stellar winds, accretion-disk outflows, and astrophysical explosions. Measuring it helps determine momentum transfer, energy transport, source evolution, and the environmental effects of mass loss.

Mass Conservation and Flow Rate Measurements

2023

Source: Ricardo Mejia-Alvarez and Hussam Hikmat Jabbar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate the calibration of a flow passage as a flowmeter using a control volume (CV) formulation [1, 2]. The CV analysis focuses on the macroscopic effect of flow on engineering systems, rather than the detailed description that could be achieved with a detailed differential analysis. These two techniques should be...

Measuring Reaction Rates

Polarimetry finds application in chemical kinetics to measure the concentration and reaction kinetics of optically active substances during a chemical reaction. Optically active substances have the capability of rotating the plane of polarization of linearly polarized light passing through them—a feature called optical rotation. Optical activity is attributed to the molecular structure of substances. Normal monochromatic light is unpolarized and possesses oscillations of the electrical field in...

Reaction Rate

The rate of reaction is the change in the amount of a reactant or product per unit time. Reaction rates are therefore determined by measuring the time dependence of some property that can be related to reactant or product amounts. Rates of reactions that consume or produce gaseous substances, for example, are conveniently determined by measuring changes in volume or pressure. The mathematical representation of the change in the concentration of reactants and products, over time, is the rate...

Here we present a protocol to increase chimera production without the use of new equipment. A simple orientation change of the embryo for injection can increase the number of embryos produced, and potentially reduce the timeline to germline transmission.
