Triton X-100 Control

Triton X-100 control refers to the deliberate management and experimental comparison of Triton X-100, a nonionic detergent used to disrupt biological membranes during laboratory procedures. Its hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions interact with membrane lipids, permeabilizing or solubilizing membranes and releasing intracellular or membrane-associated components, while the extent of disruption depends on detergent exposure. In biological techniques, detergent-only controls help distinguish effects caused by membrane permeabilization from those produced by antibodies, stains, enzymes, or other reagents. Careful control of concentration, treatment time, and washing supports reproducible immunostaining, cell lysis, protein extraction, and microscopy results.

100-Percent-Reserve Banking

2025

Imagine an economy without any banks; the entire money supply is held by the public in the form of physical currency. This means that the amount of money in the economy is equal to the total value of currency held by households and firms. Now, a commercial bank is introduced, and the public is assumed to deposit all their currency into the bank. If the bank does not issue any loans and instead holds all the deposited money in reserve, it is known as a 100-percent-reserve banking system. In this...

Immunohistochemical Staining of S-100 Protein in Human Rectal Suction Biopsy Sections

2025

This video demonstrates the immunohistochemical staining for S-100 protein in rectal suction biopsy sections. Antigen-retrieved sections are blocked and treated with primary, followed by secondary antibodies against S-100, a marker of Hirschsprung's disease. Chromogenic substrate is added to stain the targeted cells. Samples are dehydrated and mounted before visualizing under the microscope.

Enriching Subcellular Proteins in Leptospira Using a Triton X-114-Based Fractionation Approach

Though prokaryotes lack an organellar system, there are subcellular regions with localized proteins. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the enzymes and proteins in the subcellular regions is important for developing drug and vaccine targets. Here, we illustrate the subcellular fractionation of Leptospiral proteins using Triton X-114 and its analysis.
