Multiwell Plate Incubation

Multiwell plate incubation is the controlled maintenance of biological samples in separate wells of a plate, enabling parallel experiments with consistent conditions and efficient use of reagents. During incubation, temperature, humidity, gas exchange, and exposure time are regulated to support cell growth, biochemical reactions, or interactions between samples and test compounds. In biology, this process supports cell culture, microbial growth, enzyme assays, immunoassays, and drug screening, while plate-based formats simplify controls, replicates, and quantitative measurements. Careful management of evaporation, contamination, and uniform conditions improves data quality and helps researchers compare many experimental treatments in a single workflow.

Source: Anderson, Q. L. et al. A High-throughput, High-content, Liquid-based C. elegans Pathosystem. J. Vis. Exp. (2018)This video demonstrates a high-throughput screening method using Caenorhabditis elegans to study gene knockdowns during host-pathogen interactions. It outlines the procedure for preparing knockdown worms and transferring them to assay plates to evaluate the effects of pathogen-induced worm killing.

A Technique for the Prolonged Incubation of Neuronal Tissue of the Retina

This video demonstrates a method for prolonged incubation of neuronal tissue of the retina. Eyecups containing retina are obtained from a mouse eye; the inner limiting membrane (ILM) is enzymatically digested to expose the neuronal cells of the retina, and either the treated eyecup or the isolated retina is transferred to a specialized incubator for prolonged incubation at a low temperature.

Laboratory soil warming experiments usually employ two or more constant temperatures in multiple chambers. By presenting a sophisticated environmental chamber, we provide an accurate temperature control method to imitate the magnitude and amplitude of in situ soil temperature and improve the experimental design of soil incubation studies.

Responding for food or drug-paired cues increases over the course of a period of abstinence and this may relate to an increased susceptibility to relapse behaviors. Here we detail a procedure for evaluating this "incubation of craving" in rats that have self-administered sucrose.
