Anti-inflammatory Compounds

Anti-inflammatory compounds are chemical substances that reduce or regulate inflammation, the coordinated biological response to injury, infection, or irritation, and are important targets in medicinal chemistry. They act by interfering with molecular pathways that produce inflammatory mediators; for example, some inhibit cyclooxygenase enzymes that generate prostaglandins, while others modulate lipoxygenase activity, cytokine signaling, or transcription factors such as NF-κB. Studying these compounds helps researchers relate molecular structure to biological activity, assess potency and selectivity, and develop treatments for inflammatory disorders. Chemical analysis also supports the identification of natural products and the optimization of safer, more effective therapeutic candidates.

Take cultures of human monocyte-derived microglia-like cells.Introduce nanoparticles containing an anti-inflammatory drug into the experimental culture and the free drug into the control. The nanoparticles feature a hydrophilic shell and a hydrophobic core encapsulating the lipophilic drug. The cells endocytose the nanoparticles, which release the drug intracellularly, enhancing its delivery. The free drug enters by passive diffusion, a process constrained by the concentration gradient, which...

Biofilm infections show high tolerance towards chemotherapy. No single assay captures the complexity of biofilms. Instead, complementary assays are needed. We present a screening platform (developed for S. aureus) that combines assays for viability, biomass, and biofilm matrix. It allows anti-biofilm drug discovery, including the assessment of long-term chemotherapeutic effects.

Assessment of the Anticoagulant and Anti-inflammatory Properties of Endothelial Cells Using 3D Cell Culture and Non-anticoagulated Whole Blood

We present an in vitro model which allows the study and analysis of coagulation in whole, non-anticoagulated blood. Anticoagulation in the system depends on the natural anticoagulation effect of healthy endothelial cells and endothelial cell activation will result in clotting.
