Isotactic Poly(alpha-hydroxy Acids)

Isotactic poly(alpha-hydroxy acids) are biodegradable polymers whose alpha-hydroxy acid units adopt a regular, matching stereochemical arrangement along the chain. They are commonly formed through stereocontrolled polymerization, especially ring-opening polymerization of cyclic diesters such as lactides, which preserves monomer configuration and produces a stereoregular backbone. This molecular order can increase crystallinity and influence melting behavior, mechanical performance, hydrolysis, and degradation rates compared with less regular materials. In chemistry and materials research, these polymers support the design of resorbable medical devices, drug-delivery systems, tissue-engineering materials, and sustainable plastics with tunable properties.

Nucleic Acids

Nucleic acids are the most important macromolecules for the continuity of life. They carry the cell's genetic blueprint and carry instructions for its functioning. DNA and RNA The two main types of nucleic acids are deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA). DNA is the genetic material in all living organisms, ranging from single-celled bacteria to multicellular mammals. It is in the nucleus of eukaryotes and in the organelles, chloroplasts, and mitochondria. In prokaryotes, the...
