Repetitive Measurements

Repetitive measurements are repeated observations of the same chemical quantity under consistent conditions, used to assess measurement precision and improve confidence in analytical results. By applying the same sampling, preparation, and instrumental procedure multiple times, chemists can compare replicate values, calculate a mean, and estimate variability through measures such as standard deviation. These measurements help distinguish random error from unusual results, reveal problems in instruments or technique, and support quality control. In chemistry, repetitive measurements are important for validating analytical methods, evaluating experimental reproducibility, and reporting results with an appropriate estimate of uncertainty.

Concussion presents the most common type of traumatic brain injury. Therefore, a repetitive concussive animal model, which replicates the important features of an injury in patients, may provide a means to study concussion in a rigorous, controlled, and efficient manner.

Here, we present a protocol to generate soliton crystals in a butterfly-packaged micro-ring resonator using a thermal tuned method. Further, the repetition rate fluctuations of a soliton crystal with a single vacancy are measured using a delayed self-heterodyne method.

Higher order restricted, repetitive behaviors (RRBs) disrupt the lives of affected individuals. These behaviors are challenging to model in rodents, making basic biomedical research into potential treatments or interventions for RRBs difficult. Here we describe novel object exploration as a potential assay for higher order RRBs in mice.

Source: Poinsatte, K., et al., Quantification of Neurovascular Protection Following Repetitive Hypoxic Preconditioning and Transient Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion in Mice. J. Vis. Exp. (2015)This video demonstrates the method of repetitive hypoxic preconditioning (RHP) by exposing a mouse to controlled hypoxia cycles before inducing an ischemic stroke. The experiment evaluates its effects on blood-brain barrier stability, neuronal adaptation, and inflammation.

Source: Taube, W., et.al., Non-invasive Assessment of Changes in Corticomotoneuronal Transmission in Humans. J. Vis. Exp. (2017)This video demonstrates a non-invasive method to assess changes in corticomotoneuronal transmission in humans following repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). The study introduces an electrophysiological technique that differentiates fast, direct corticospinal pathways from polysynaptic connections.
