Maternal Exercise Pregnancy

Maternal exercise during pregnancy is planned physical activity performed while supporting maternal health and fetal development, making it an important topic in developmental biology. Moderate movement can increase maternal cardiovascular and respiratory activity, alter blood flow and energy use, and influence the oxygen and nutrients available to the developing fetus; intensity and safety depend on individual health and pregnancy conditions. Research on maternal exercise examines how these physiological changes affect placental function, fetal growth, and later developmental outcomes. This knowledge informs prenatal guidance and helps clarify how the maternal environment shapes embryonic and fetal development.

Cited by 2 •

2014

Transabdominal ultrasound is described as an effective, noninvasive means for assessing reproductive status in Reeves' muntjac deer. These methods can be used to achieve early pregnancy diagnosis and to evaluate fetal viability. Future applications of this technique include estimation of gestational age and effects of maternal disease on fetal development.

Isolation of Leukocytes from the Human Maternal-fetal Interface

Described herein is a protocol to isolate and further study the infiltrating leukocytes of the decidua basalis and decidua parietalis - the human maternal-fetal interface. This protocol maintains the integrity of cell surface markers and yields enough viable cells for downstream applications as proven by flow cytometry analysis.

High-frequency Ultrasonography Based Early Pregnancy Characterization: A Technique to Study Embryo Implantation and Pregnancy Progression in Pregnant Murine Model

2025

In this video, we demonstrate high-frequency ultrasonography to image embryo implantation sites in a pregnant murine model. This imaging technique successfully detects viable pregnancy and characterizes embryo-implantation sites during early murine pregnancy.

A Novel Use of Three-dimensional High-frequency Ultrasonography for Early Pregnancy Characterization in the Mouse

Mice are widely used to study gestational biology. However, pregnancy termination is required for such studies which precludes longitudinal investigations and necessitates the use of large numbers of animals. Therefore, we describe a non-invasive technique of high-frequency ultrasonography for early detection and monitoring of post-implantation events in the pregnant mouse.
