Flexible Phototransistor Array

A flexible phototransistor array is a lightweight, bendable matrix of phototransistors that detects and processes variations in light while conforming to curved surfaces. Each device converts incident photons into an electrical signal, and the phototransistor amplifies this response through light-controlled charge transport in a semiconductor channel; arranging many devices enables spatially resolved imaging. Fabricated on flexible substrates, these arrays can maintain optical and electrical operation under bending, making them useful for wearable sensors, robotic vision, electronic skin, and biomedical interfaces. Their combination of mechanical adaptability, sensitivity, and pixel-level detection supports compact imaging systems and emerging flexible optoelectronic technologies.

Fabrication of Flexible Image Sensor Based on Lateral NIPIN Phototransistors

2018

We present a detailed method to fabricate a deformable lateral NIPIN phototransistor array for curved image sensors. The phototransistor array with an open mesh form, which is composed of thin silicon islands and stretchable metal interconnectors, provides flexibility and stretchability. The parameter analyzer characterizes the electrical property of the fabricated phototransistor.
